Aussie 101: Good couple adopts their first Australian Shephard and need advice on how to raise her with a golden retriever, showing the benefits of a technological age on pawrenting

An aussie and a golden retriever, what a dynamic duo.

Getting a puppy is a lot of work and responsibility. It's not a decision that should be made lightly. Even if you've owned dogs before, every breed is so different and you really have to dial into what each breed needs and wants before getting the dog. This couple here has all the best intentions for their dogs. They already have a golden retriever, but now they've just adopted a 17 week old Australian Shephard, Nyx. She clicked with the family immediately and also the golden retriever. They say that as a puppy, she's surprisingly calm, and she's unsure of the world and is a little bit needy and attached to them. She definitely is fitting into the stereotype of being a Velcro dog. They want to be the best pawrents they can be, so they use the internet's wonderful ability to be in touch with people all over the world.

Her herding instincts are kicking in, and so they've been doing herding games with her. She's very smart, and they just want to be the best they can be for her. People comment with great advice, like having daily mental activities that occupy her, along with the physical activities to tire her out. Teaching her a mental on and off switch is important when they're puppies. Another is an obvious puppy one: she will chew anything, so hide anything sacred. They also urge the couple to brush her. Mostly, it's just about taking the responsibility for her and managing the time between training, personal life, and giving the doggo some love. Enjoy, and hopefully you learn a thing or two about Australian Shephard's.

These dogs look like the perfect pair. I really miss having a dog, and I used to have a golden retriever, Brody. Pairing him with another dog like an Australian Shephard seems like a great match. They're both so friendly and loving, and you have the stereotypes of being overly friendly with everyone and overly attached to owner, which could give you some room to breath if pawrenting for two doggos becomes too much. There's not much else to say, except that the internet is still an incredible resource, and using it for good will always be available.
